Tree Top Hospital’s Ophthalmology Department is proud to have successfully performed its first Pterygium Surgery on February 27, 2020. This procedure was performed on a 78-year-old guest who was suffering from a condition called pterygium. A pterygium is an abnormal growth of the conjunctiva over the cornea. Surgery is necessary when the pterygium causes discomfort or enlarges its size to the extent it approaches or occupies the area of the pupil, causing impairing of vision. A surgical team led by Ophthalmology Consultant, Dr. Aditya Rege and assisted by a skilled clinical team of anesthesiologists and OT nurses, performed the eye procedure to remove the pterygium and a conjunctival autograft is placed in the area of resection to reduce the risk of recurrence. “The operation was a success and this procedure will stop further deterioration of guest’s vision and improve his quality of life”, stated Tree Top Hospital’s Ophthalmology Consultant, Dr. Aditya Rege. In addition to Pterygium Surgery, Dr. Rege is also specialized in Phacoemulsification, Chalazion Surgery, Diabetic Retinopathy Screening, Medical Glaucoma Management and Surgical Management of Complicated Cataract Cases.
